Alcohol

More information about this topic

The Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT), a 10-question assessment tool, has been developed by the World Health Organization and can distinguish hazardous drinkers who are amenable to relatively simple advice in the form of a “brief intervention”, from harmful drinkers for whom referral to specialist services is appropriate.

The Fast Alcohol Screening Test (FAST) was developed from AUDIT as a shorter version to use in busy A&E and hospital environments to detect hazardous drinking.

If an individual has a score that suggests harmful drinking, the Severity of Alcohol Dependence Questionnaire (SADQ) is 20-item questionnaire designed by the World Health Organisation can be used to measure severity of dependence on alcohol.

Yes, I am keeping stats. This group and the continence one are the most visited- around 40 ‘unique’ visitors here over the last few weeks.

The site still isn’t widely publicised until we build the activity a bit more. There are discussions under way to have the templates here indexed in NHS Scotland’s eLibrary. I’m hoping that will happen over the next few months.

Just wondering – are the number of downloads/visits to the site being monitored and counted? I’m pointing more and more people this way!

The WHO AUDIT tool has now been added as a template.

And another…

After discussion with Hazel, I’ve added the alcohol section from the Health and Wellbeing screening tool.

As part of the process here is to take existing tools and improve them through informal peer review, it’s better that we don’t only post tools that have already been through the validation process.

So please take a look at this as it stands, and comment on it. We will shortly have the ability to post an overall ‘review’ of a template, which will let people get a quick impression on whether a template has problems with implemenation or evidence-base.

Your thoughts and all this would be much appreciated.

And that’s the FAST tool in now too.
